The process begins with a meeting to exchange ideas and begin the design process. It is most helpful if you have an idea of what your goals are and how you wish to use the new spaces. Having pictures from magazines or books and some concrete ideas that we can build upon make for a great start.
The next step is to engage an architect to get his/her input and an idea of cost to draw the job. They are broken into three categories: sketches, drawings and feedback, and finally working drawings from which we can get bids and apply for permits. Once we get the working drawings, firm bids can be given and a contract can be drawn up. Permitting the job takes some time so one must allow time for this process.
Once the contract is signed and we are set to go, a binder is given to the client containing a list of all the places to go and select materials for the job. This includes windows, doors, tile, flooring, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, etc. This is the “fun” part of the job; one that will get you to think about all the wonderful things available to you, and how they will fit into your new home or addition.
